Would you like fresh brown or white crab meat?


Our fresh white crab meat is second to none, it's excellent. If you like a stronger tasting crab meat, order brown, it's also fresh and also excellent. If you don't know a lot about buying crabs or crabmeat, this is an easy option because the crab meat is cooked and ready to use and you don't have to extract it from the crab. So, you can use it straight from the pack in a salad, just lay it out on some salad leaves with some mayonnaise or garlic mayonnaise, or arrange on some smaller plates, again with salad leaves and a lemon half as a quick, easy and delicous starter. The brown crab meat is ideal in crab sandwiches because it has a stronger taste, or warm it with a dash of cognac and a sprinkling of a strong cheddar and flash under the grill.

Pasteurised Indonesian swimming crab meat, vacuum packed for extra long life in your fridge (not freezer). Packed in 454g bags (1lb), ideal for serving fresh and cold or in cooked dishes.

A recipe for a crab flan

Heat your oven to 180°C. gas 4.
Line a cake tin (17-20cm in diameter) with baking parchment. Don't bother to cut it to fit, just push it down into the corners. Gently put a defrosted ready rolled short pastry circle over the tin, and gently push the pastry down into the tin. If any holes appear just push a spare bit of pastry on to glue the hole together. Line the pastry with another piece of baking parchment (push it down into the corners of the tin as before), so the pastry is between two pieces of baking parchment. Fill the tin with some baking beans or uncooked rice, then cook for about 10 minutes. Cooking for this 10 minutes without the filling will mean the pastry will turn out crisp and not soggy.
During the 10 minutes get ready your filling: the crab meat of course, plus some grated cheddar, or crumbled feta, or cooked fried onions (use the tinned ones for speed), some grilled peppers in oil (drained), some sweetcorn, whatever you fancy. Beat up 3 smallish eggs with a couple of tablespoons of milk and some herbs.
After the 10 minutes are over, take the cake tin out of the oven, take out the inner baking parchment with the baking beans, and carefully trim the pastry with a sharp knife. Fill the case with your chosen ingredients to nearly the top, pour over the egg, leaving about a cm of unfilled pastry to allow the egg to rise a bit. Bake for a further 30 minutes or so, until the filling is set. It will continue cooking after you take it out of the oven, so don't be too strict on time.
Serve with a salad and some new potatoes, and a red onion or other chutney.

Frozen white or frozen 50/50 crab meat?


This frozen white crab meat is hand picked and goes a long way because there's no waste. It's good in salads, or use it in cooked dishes. If it's a stronger flavour you're looking for, order 50/50 crab meat, which is half white and half brown crab meat. The 50/50 crab meat is from the Orkneys, and like the frozen white crab meat it is superb quality. Both are sold in old fashioned 1lb packs (454g).

These delicious fresh crab claws are new in, we're offering them at the same price as frozen for a limited period just to let you get a taste for them! At 150g each they are slightly bigger than the frozen crab claws (see below), so even more of a bargain! From Scarborough.

Frozen cooked crab claws from the Orkneys. We have recently started selling fresh crab claws (see above), but if we don't get supplies we will send you frozen. They are guaranteed full and are a good size. We used to call these cocktail crab claws because they are ideal to serve at a buffet with a bowl of garlic or chilli mayonnaise.They weigh about 125g each.
